The Newborn Channel programs help you meet Joint Commission 2010/2011 Standards of Accreditation and Elements of Performance.

It’s easy to see how The Newborn Channel can help meet your accreditation requirements.

Click here to see the results of this year’s review of Newborn Channel programming by The Joint Commission Resources at the Newborn Channel web site.

The document lists all Newborn Channel programs and indicates which accreditation standards and elements of performance it might support as part of a hospital’s ongoing quality initiatives. It includes an appendix that highlights changes in the relevant standards, elements of performance and patient safety goals between 2009 and now.

Jane Schetter, a consultant in the Joint Commission Resources Continuous Readiness program, reviewed each program and developed the document with The Newborn Channel staff. Jane says, “The Joint Commission requires that organizations provide patient education and training based on each patient’s needs and abilities by performing a needs assessment and then communicating with the patient in a manner that meets the patient’s oral and written communications needs.

The Newborn Channel and the Newborn Channel education videos not only offer basic education in an audio visual format, but include the possibility of printing the script in both English and Spanish.

Both the videos and scripts are at a basic level and easy to understand. When learning needs are identified that are covered by topics on the Channels, precious nursing (caregiver) time may be saved by using the videos for patient and family education.”
